Post-Construction Cleaning in Cambridge
Construction dust is not ordinary dust. It is fine, abrasive, statically clinging, and it comes back twice after you think you are finished — which is why this is a three-pass job, not a big clean.
Cambridge has had steady industrial and commercial construction — new build in the Boxwood Business Campus and Cambridge Business Park, plant expansions and line additions through the Franklin Boulevard and Maple Grove corridors, office fit-outs in the restored downtown Galt buildings, and retail conversions along Hespeler Road. All of it ends the same way: a handover date that will not move and a building full of drywall dust.
The three passes
- Rough clean: after the bulk of trades are out. Debris and offcuts removed, gross dust knocked down from high to low, floors swept and vacuumed with HEPA filtration so the same dust is not just redistributed, and stickers, labels and protective film pulled from glass and fixtures.
- Final clean: everything washed. Glass inside and out at reachable height, frames and tracks, ledges, sills, door faces and tops, all cabinetry inside and out, fixtures, switch plates, vents and grilles, washrooms in full, and floors cleaned to their finish requirement.
- Touch-up: one to three days later, after settling and after the deficiency trades have been back through. This is the pass that separates a proper post-construction contract from a one-off clean, and it is the one most often skipped.
Industrial and warehouse specifics
New sealed concrete needs the right first treatment or it carries the marks forever — the cure schedule and the manufacturer's instructions decide what can be used and when, and that gets checked rather than assumed. Racking that has been erected and left needs its faces and beams cleaned before product goes on it. Welding smoke film, silica dust from cutting and core drilling, and adhesive residue all need specific handling rather than a general-purpose cleaner. Overhead structure gets done before the floor, and lift work is either quoted with certified crew or referred out.
Working alongside trades still on site
Almost nothing is ever fully finished when the cleaning starts. Crews work to your construction manager's sequence, coordinate area by area, wear the PPE the site requires, sign in through the site office and follow site rules like any other subtrade. If a trade comes back through a finished area, the redo is quoted honestly instead of being absorbed and then argued about.
Scheduling to the handover
Post-construction cleans are booked backwards from the occupancy or handover date with the touch-up pass built in. Building it in from the start is cheaper than adding it in a panic the day before a client walkthrough.

Do you remove construction debris and skips?
General debris and packaging, yes, to your bins or waste containers. Bulk demolition waste, hazardous material and bin haulage are separate trades and should be contracted separately.
How soon after the trades finish can you start?
The rough clean can run while finishing trades are still on site, area by area. The final clean needs the area genuinely complete, otherwise it is being paid for twice.
Can you clean new sealed or polished concrete?
Yes, following the manufacturer's cure and maintenance instructions for that specific product. The wrong chemical or the right one applied too early is a permanent problem, so the spec is confirmed in writing before anyone touches it.
